11 Jul 13 - Pennant Test Results and Hall Call!

The day started bright and early again with PT - we were out of our dorms and marching to the PT pad at 4:45 am. We had a great workout this morning!

Hooray for PT!

We had a few hours of class, and then were able to take part in the Tattoo Ceremony for our class. To find out more about what that means, you can take a quick look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_tattoo
Basically, it involves changing command from the COT staff to our student leadership.

After the tattoo ceremony, we met back in our flight room and Capt Fesler spoke to us about the history behind carrying a flag, or pennant in the military. Then, he officially announced that we successfully passed our pennant test! This means we can now march ourselves around as one group instead of in several smaller groups. We are very proud of ourselves - we put in many hours of practice, and it certainly paid off!

After lunch was our first hall call - a big pep rally minus the cheerleaders. We first gathered at the squadron level - each flight did their cheer. The Golf Ghostbusters were a big hit! Capt Anderson, our squadron commander, pumped us up with words of encouragement, then gave out the first round of weekly awards. Golf Flight earned professional flight of the week, based on our drilling and overall professionalism.  The other awards up for grabs are PT flight of the week, academic flight of the week, and honor flight of the week. We learned we were just on the heels of the flight that won honor flight , so we've got plans to work hard to pass them this week!

After our squadron hall call, the entire class got together to give the same awards at the class level. All of the flights and squadrons were shouting out their chants at the top of their lungs, and some of them are pretty darn intense! For example, our chant -

"Falcons!
Falcons hunt from on high,
Diving down from the sky,
Ripping flesh with their talons,
Drawing blood by the gallons!
Falcons!
DEATH FROM ABOVE!"

Once everyone quieted down, they handed out the awards at the class level. Golf Flight took home the professional flight of the week again!
Very blurry, but this is Lt Col Juby presenting our flight, represented by Capt Bourne, with the Professional Flight of the week.

On top of that, our leadership announced that we would move up in our privilege status. Instead of only staying on the small portion of the base that includes our dorms, dining facility, and auditorium, we are permitted to go out on the rest of Maxwell AFB. Maybe even more exciting is the fact that we can now TALK at meals. It's the little things in life that count.

This weekend we're studying for our next big test on Monday, and then preparing for a 5K and our first military briefing on Wednesday.

Teamwork makes the dream work!
