25 July, Part I - Litter Carry Exercise and Building an Alaskan Shelter

We all woke up to the sound of Reveille being played over the speakers at the Blue Thunder site. We ate our MRE's under a large awning with this as our view. Beautiful!
Beautiful morning view of ropes course
After breakfast, our squadron was assigned to the litter carry exercise first. We learned the different ways of carrying a wounded person on a stretcher, and then were put through the paces on an obstacle course. Our instructors simulated gun fire and mortar shell attacks. It was challenging, and those assigned to carry got pretty dirty!

After the litter carry exercise, we worked with the other flights in our squadron to erect an Alaskan shelter. This is the type of tent that we slept in overnight.

  1. Oh my goodness! Being carried through obstacles on a stretcher while people simulate crossfire must be so surreal...sounds like it's not for the faint of heart!
